Julie’s Bicycle

2018

Julie’s Bicycle is an international, UK registered, charity that supports sustainability in the arts. Its aim is to use creativity to support environmental change. It is a worldwide leader in supporting arts organisations to become ecologically aware and more sustainable. It works on projects and campaigns which are often co-produced by the arts and science community, based around action research and committed to the sharing of free knowledge and expertise.

They developed the Creative Industries Greens Tools, a toolkit that helps organisations become more sustainable, which has been translated into different languages and licenced in different countries (free download). One of their free online tools is a carbon an environmental calculator which helps organisations to understand their environmental impact in regard to energy use, water consumption, waste generation and recycling, travel and production materials. This allows organisation to develop an environmental strategy and become certified.

Their Resource Hub includes a vast range of reports, case studies, interviews and toolkits that help organisations within the cultural sector (and with studies across different mediums) to become more environmentally sustainable. It also recommends a number of books and podcasts with further information and has a funding board.
